In just 4 short hours, a team of 28 short-term missionaries will leave Birmingham for Kenya. Our team is comprised of physicians, nurses, pharmacists, a veterinarian, and many volunteers. This is one of the largest teams we've ever taken to Kenya, so we are excited about the impact that it will have on the Kingdom! Each year, our goal is to share the Gospel with as many people as we can. The medical clinic that we host serves as a great opportunity to meet their physical needs but it also opens up doors to share the good news of Christ.
God has abundantly blessed our mission efforts this year. Because we have such a large team, we will have the opportunity to host two medical clinics simultaneously in the towns of Wundanyi and Mwatate. Both of these towns are in Southern Kenya near the Tanzanian border. We will be ministering to the Taveta and Taita tribes who live in this region. Here's the exciting part... at the end of the week, we will then plant TWO new churches in these towns. This is a major undertaking for Jesus Harvesters and our Kenyan brothers and sisters with the Agape Fellowship Centre, but the Lord has made this possible.
Given recent world events, some may wonder why. Why do we spend our time, effort, money, and energy to travel around the world to do this? The answer is simple... Christ is alive. In I Corinthians 15, Paul logically reasons that "if Christ has not been raised, then your faith is futile." If Christ is dead, then our efforts are in vain and pointless. But we go to testify that Christ is not dead but alive! And that makes all the difference. Paul continues by saying that "in Christ all will be made alive". ALIVE! Isn't that good news worth the cost? The answer is a resounding YES! As such, Paul concludes I Corinthians 15 with this truth.... "Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain". God will bless our work when we give ourselves fully. Because when we give ourselves to the Lord, He will use us to advance His Kingdom for His purposes and His glory.
And now I ask you to pray for this mission. Pray for our team, for unity in the Spirit, for peace, and for travel mercies. Pray for the people we will meet in Wundanyi and Mwatate. Pray for healing and salvation! Pray for these new churches and their new pastors. Pray for our Agape Fellowship team that will be traveling to meet us.
We covet your prayers! God bless!
